Lutheran Downtown Hospital Stellhorn ER is a freestanding emergency department that provides quick, convenient, 24/7 access for patients with emergent and potentially life-threatening conditions – heart attacks, strokes, head injuries, fractures, abdominal pain, respiratory issues and more. The ED includes:

The freestanding ED provides many of the same services the hospital's main emergency department provides. Many emergencies can be entirely managed at the freestanding ED.

What happens if a patient comes to a freestanding ED but needs to be admitted to the hospital?
The freestanding ED will provide the same level of care as the main hospital ED. In cases where patients will require a hospital admission, we will begin that process at the freestanding ED. Test results and other records will be available through our electronic medical record system (EMR), ensuring a smoother transition and continuity of care between the ED and the hospital inpatient setting.
